Is freeCodeCamp participating in Hacktoberfest 2021?

A couple of freeCodeCamp repos, including the primary freeCodeCamp repo are currently tagged with the Hacktoberfest topic.

Are these left over from previous years or is freeCodeCamp welcoming Hacktoberfest 2021 contributions?

Apart from Seth Falco’s article, How to Participate in Hacktoberfest – Even if You Don’t Write Code, I haven’t seen any material from freeCodeCamp about this year’s Hacktoberfest.

I can totally understand if freeCodeCamp doesn’t want to deal with an influx of low value PRs, though some of the rule changes since last year seem to have greatly reduced the spam.

There have been significant rule changes for the good, yes. But if you join the hacktoberfest discord, you’ll find quite a fewfamiliar freecodecamp faces.

Yes, freecodecamp is an active participant.

That’s good to know. I’d love to contribute to freeCodeCamp and maintain my Hacktoberfest streak at the same time.

freeCodeCamp decided to not advertise it after last couple of years not going that well, like the year of thousands of invalid PRs. It took months, almost a year, for GitHub moderators to deal with it.

So, yeah, partecipating, but quietly.

That’s absolutely fair. I can only imagine the torrent of spam FCC has received. I hope the new rules, such as only accepted PRs counting and the ability to block someone for multiple offences, help push bad actors out of the event.
