the first thing you should do is try to understand the objectives of this challenge.

In your own words, what do you believe is the goal for this step?

to turn the text;freecodecamp into a link

yes that is true.
If you click the reset button and look into the editor area,
do you see the word freecodecamp.org anywhere?

This is the word that you should be making into a link.

To review how to make links you can review step 10/11/12 of the cat photo app or you can read this post:

it keeps saying ; my anchor element should be nested within the footer element. does that mean i’m removing the p element?

For this step you should not delete anything.

then what do i do? i have followed your steps but still cant pass

What have you tried?

Please show your latest try.

I’ve edited your code for readability. When you enter a code block into a forum post, please precede it with a separate line of three backticks and follow it with a separate line of three backticks to make it easier to read.

You can also use the “preformatted text” tool in the editor (</>) to add backticks around text.

See this post to find the backtick on your keyboard.
Note: Backticks (`) are not single quotes (').

You are getting closer but you have changed some of the text that was given to you.

Try to reset the code and this time do not delete anything, not even a single space. Instead just add the anchor element around the last word of the given text.

Do not add space in the anchor text

You should copy the URL from the exercise into the href value. (Copy and paste will make it perfect rather than typing it)

Also you need to add the link text in between the anchor tags.

The final result of your work should look like this (in the preview pane)
