Tribute page for Saul Bass - Feedback

Hi there!

I’ve started my journey in learning how to code, and after all the exercises of HTML and CSS I’m now trying to get the projects done.

Here is my Tribute Page:

I’d love to get some feedback from the community, so I can learn as much as possible.

Thanks !

Looks good to me, I really like the style.

I might work on trying to get the ul’s to look more centered but that’s a really small thing.

Hi @Bibiki, welcome to the forums. I’m liking your page but have a couple of things for you to think about.

  • This is a nit but they are titles and therefore do not require a period. For instance instead of Carmen Jones. have Carmen Jones
  • I was going to suggest you have the years in your timeline either bold or <h2> when I realized you do but it’s not being seen because of the way you imported your font.

Have you noticed that they aren’t bold? Try removing your call to the ‘Inconsolata’ font and you’ll see the difference.

The reason this is happening is because when you set the link to Inconsolata you only set it to the default weight of 400. Go back to Google Fonts and when you select your font it will give you the link. All well and good so far but what you then need to do is click on the ‘customize’ link (next to ‘embed’) and there click the bold checkbox also. Click the ‘embed’ link and put the new link in your page. (Notice it now has weights for 400 & 700)

So it looks like the font you choose only has a normal weight and a bold weight. There are others that support different weights and italics. (For grins, look at ‘Roboto’.)

Btw, I did this too with a page I was working on and asked a question about why I wasn’t seeing the font output the way I expected here in the forums and it was explained to me. Here’s the link to my post which includes a quick video the responder made showing how to do what I just explained.

Thank you! I think you are right, so I’ve modified the ul’s position to be more centered

Hi Roma! Thank you for your help! It was really useful. It’s true that I didn’t see the letters bold, but I was working on other stuff and just forgot about it.

I’ve seen what you have just told me in Google Fonts and replace the code with the new one. The thing is that I still can’t notice the difference, so I don’t know if I’m not using it well yet or just that the font doesn’t have a noticeable bold feature.

And about the titles, you are right, so I’ve fixed that too.

Thanks again!

Hi Bibiki. There’s a difference now that you’ve imported the 700 along with the 400. Looks good!
