What Cybersecurity Skills Should I Learn Alongside JavaScript?

I’m currently learning JavaScript and have recently become interested in cybersecurity as well. I know that cybersecurity covers many areas, so I’m trying to understand which skills are the most useful to learn alongside web development.

Would it make sense to focus on JavaScript, Linux, and basic networking first, or should I start learning security concepts from the beginning? I’m not looking to rush into advanced topics—I just want to build a solid foundation without skipping important basics.

For those who started with web development and later explored cybersecurity, what learning path worked best for you, and what would you recommend focusing on first?

Hello,

you are right with learning network basics and Linux. You need to know what you are trying to protect. Also basic cloud computing.

Next you need to finde a niche in this vast field. Cybersecurity today is far more than bug hunting and incident response. To find your niche, take some time to study the following:

  • Detection & Response (what people often think of talking about cybersecurity)
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Zero Trust and Zero Trust architectures
  • Cloud Security
  • Application Security
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance
  • AI Security

Look what appeals to you and find a roadmap for your path and possible IT-careers. That might mean roles that have security as an addition, like cloud engineer with IAM or Zero Trust expertise.

Best Regards

Okay for me , what i’ll suggest for you is to use is the r.sh(roadmap.sh) where you find many technologies roadmap including cybersecurity and the cloud computing , for that place you might know exactly the road to use to start your journey alongside it

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I actually hadn’t explored roadmap.sh properly before, but it looks like a really useful resource. I like that it lays everything out in a clear learning path instead of guessing what to study next. I’ll definitely spend some time going through the cybersecurity and cloud roadmaps. Really appreciate you pointing me in that direction!

Thank you very much too ,I’m also glad I could help
