Where should I look for jobs?

I would really like to know what’s the best resource where a junior frontend developer can find a job. Since I’m in a pretty small town, there aren’t any opportunities for me to find a job in real life, so working remote is my only option. However, when I go to websites like Upwork, all I see are senior web developers looking for work. Has anyone here gotten lucky by landing a remote job as a junior developer?

I’ve mostly used LinkedIn and Indeed when it comes to job hunting (although I’ve also worked with headhunters). Are you willing to relocate? Remote Jr positions are not the easiest to find.

I need a job to be able to relocate, I’m struggling to find a job without relocating. Kind of a tough spot

When you’re job hunting, if people ask whether you’re willing to relocate they are asking whether you would accept a job that requires you to relocate.

There are a few remote job sites for tech out there. I have a few sites and I’ll dig them up and post them here this week. As you said- it’s tough finding good remote jobs at a junior/entry level.

Well, try to be on LinkedIn.

But you would like to connect with the various individuals from the company which lists the job openings and chat them up to understand the aspects of the job and whether you can do 75% of the job with 25% of gap fillings for learning.

If that works, then by all means - LinkedIn and Google Search Careers works the best.

Connect with me if you want some career advise on my LinkedIn.

Some ways to try for remote work:

  1. Linkedin as mentioned
  2. Google jobs (many are the same as on Linkedin)
  3. https://remoteok.io/remote-jobs
  4. www.flexjobs.com
  5. https://www.jrdevjobs.com/ (just found this one and plan to peruse it!)
  6. standbys www.indeed.com and Ziprecruiter though I am not a fan of Zip because of the constant emails.
  7. https://angel.co/ Mainly startups- there are remote job postings in there sometimes
  8. www.simplyhired.com
  9. www.theremotenomad.com

www.skillcrush.com looks like another possible resource (one that I’ll bookmark too).

I know I have other remote sites but they’re probably on my PC which I haven’t hooked back up yet to fight with getting Windows 10 back to the way it was.

We run a web scraping and automation platform https://www.apify.com/ and use a Marketplace to distribute some of our clients’ scraping jobs to remote developers and engineers all around the world. If you have strong familiarity with JavaScript, DOM manipulation and even some Node.js skills, you would definitely find an opportunity there.

There is no commitment to a certain number of tasks or anything. You just pick a task from the available ones and then deliver it in agreed quality and timeframe. Prices are fixed at the beginning so you’ll know your earnings beforehand and can do an estimation of how long it would take you and whether that’s worth your effort or not. Prices usually range from $50 for simple tasks to $500 for complicated scraping jobs with multiple backend integrations.

To see what you would be working with, check out our SDK at https://github.com/apifytech/apify-js In my opinion, web scraping is just a great way to improve both frontend and backend JavaScript skills.

And if you’re interested, shoot an email to vaclav[at]apify[dot]com for onboarding
