Current / Longest Streak broken

Hi there,

I have a bug that my current/longest streak always refreshes just after I refresh my profile page, though I accessed my profile in first place to check for it.

Yesterday I must have forgotten to hit the refresh button because I was in a hurry just after I finished my daily fCC session and guess what happened. Correct, my 121 long streak broke and I have to start all over again

Am I sure I did yesterday my challenge?

Yes I am for 100% sure. I just had to navigate two times back and was presented my yesterday’s submitted solution which I instantly re-submitted and refreshed my profile this time.

Still, I’m upset my streak broke and wonder if this can be fixed.

Thanks in advance.

Oh no! That’s really frustrating. I’ve had my streak glitch too. Hope they fix it soon so your 121-day streak doesn’t count as lost!

To any staff member willing to investigate / help me out:

This is my profile and this is the course i did on 13.03.2026 which didn’t count for this date:

This is by the way how it look like just after I finished a timeline activity and access my profile. You can clearly see that the activity appears in the timeline, while the Stats/Activity haven’t updated yet until i reload or revisit my profile once more:

I guess this is how i triggered my strike not to count on march 13th

Did you change your time zone recently? The streak is displayed according to the time zone.

No i haven’t changed my timezone

people here can’t look at your account data, you could try writing at support@freecodecamp.org

Hello there,

To clarify:

  1. The client cache is not always the most up-to-date
    • Refreshing the page usually fixes any inconsistencies with user data
  2. It looks like you did not do anything on the 13th of March

Can you confirm if this now makes sense?

I can confirm your 1. point.
Though the 2. point is my actual problem.

The first activity in my timeline on 14th of March, should’ve been my activity from 13th of March.

Why I’m sure about the 2. point?
Because when I first refreshed my profile on 14th of March I immediately noticed my activity from 13th was missing. I just back navigated 2-3 times and found my already submitted solution which was missing and re-submitted it. Obviously it didn’t count for 13th any more.

In that case, it would appear the submission on the 13th was not successful.

Usually, unsuccessfully submitting a challenge causes a flash message to appear, and the next page is not navigated to.

Just to add more information:

Re-submitting a challenge should not change the date you completed it. I did look through our code to confirm this.

Also, upon successful completion of a challenge, the code - unless explicitly saved - is reverted back to seed code.

oh no! That’s really bad, I got back into studying again on coding, I hope this doesn’t take an impact on me, I hope this glitch is cleared out soon.

That’s what I also thought how this works.

I can just tell you what happened:

  • 13th challenge submitted and navigated to my profile page BUT this day I didn’t refreshed my page nor did I actually checked the challenge was submitted

  • 14th I realized my activity was missing and wasn’t tracked 13th. I back navigated and found my yesterday submitted code and hit submit again.

It’s curious and I can’t explain it to myself neither :frowning:

I reached out to the support E-Mail and it looks like my problem is being solved as a one time favour.

Thanks for pointing me to this E-Mail.

I still don’t know for sure if this was an mistake on my end or if the challenge/profile/streak had a bug.

But just in case do what I usually always did. After submitting your challenge or when finishing doing your exercises/challenges for today, head to your profile and check that it counted towards your streak/activity timeline. For some reason I always have to reload my profile page to actually show my current streak/activity, this is what I forgot on 13th of March and led to this break.

Heads up, wish you the very best and endurance studying and taking on the coding challenges.

Thank you Juicypop for the encourage I will strive to continue to with the challenges, that’s a good heads up i’ll go to profile see if that day counted.! :+1:
