I’ve been coding since 2020 and find it an incredibly rewarding pursuit (albeit not financially yet).
I have a bright, inquisitive 8 year old daughter, who says she wants to learn too. She loves puzzles and has a brain ideally suited to learning algorithmic coding.
Can you recommend any excellent (ideally free) resources which would be suitable to get her started please?
She’s currently playing around at school with ScratchJr but I’ve also discovered RodoCodo, which she’s doing at home. These teach algorithmic concepts but not (afaik) actual code.
Thats great, your daughter can start learning coding in a fun way by using free tools like Scratch, Blockly Games and RoboBlockly. These let her make games, stories and puzzles while learning how coding works. When she feels ready, she can try easy tutorials on Khan Academy or simple python and you can help her by doing small projects together.
Hi there. Before you try anything make sure you test it yourself and look through it thoroughly. If it has any sort of open comment system, it’s a no go. And be sure to monitor her well regardless. Kids don’t always know something is bad.
