I’m a career changer, so an internship is probably not an option for me. I have built a few projects on my own, but I still want some enterprise experience to include on my resume and LinkedIn. How can I achieve that?
Thank you!
- can you share your github profile where you’ve uploaded projects built ?
- This is what has helped me in getting job
- built projects of various complexities from Frontend Mentor website
- built couple of big projects from my own hobbies
Later approached ; Y Combinator founders with my GitHub profile to show my commitment and quality of work
I am sure it will help you as well, all the very best
My github: Your Repositories
Although there aren’t many projects in it, since I am a beginner to web dev. I’ve also looked into Y Combinator before as you have told me. But they only hire people with legal work permit in USA, so, I don’t meet the requirement.
What are your goals at this point? Are you trying to find a job right now, or are you trying to build skills and experience that will make you qualified for a job later?
If you’re trying to build experience working on a larger project with other people, then starting to contribute to an open source project. I recommend starting by contributing to something that you use often and know well from a technical perspective - such as a library you’ve used in your own projects.
I absolutely loathe the idea of promoting one of my own topics, but I received such good replies and advice from the community when I asked a similar question that I think I have justification. I think you will find it helpful.
Do try not to post anything on this old topic, as reviving old topics isn’t really a thing on this forum :)
All the best to you, @filics,
Nicolas
Personally, im still learning too, however ive been taught that freelancing is key, because you work on projects that 1- Are projects people actually need, and 2- You also get paid for it, freelance projects make you stand out from the crowd.
I’m in the same boat—transitioned careers later on and couldn’t go the internship route either. Building your own projects is a solid start, and showcasing them well matters just as much. One thing that helped me stand out was keeping my contact and portfolio info easy to access and always up to date.
