I need help with understanding the rules, and where I can and can't post what

Hello! I am still quite new here, and I read the rules, but my understanding of them are a little off, (I already got in trouble once for it), and I was wondering if someone would be willing to answer some of my questions?
(I’ma be completely honest, I do not know if I can even put this here… I apologize in advance if I can’t put this here.)

So you don’t have to wait for me to ask the questions, here are some of my questions (that I can think of right now):

  • If I am asking for UX feedback in one topic, can I make a new topic asking for DOM help?
  • If I make a new project, and just want to show it to people, and talk about the structure of the code, would I have to put it in my UX feedback topic, or am I okay to make another topic?
  • If I need to insert a specific thing inside a previous topic, because the added thing is relevant to it, would adding multiple things (for example, asking for help), after gaining another question, but being unable to edit, be allowed? Or would that count as bumping topics?
  • Is privately messaging people with questions about things like rules allowed? (Or just staff)
  • If I am unsure about something, what would be the safest option to avoid getting into trouble? I have been avoiding doing much, because I feel that the safest option is to not do anything.

If it’s the same project, just post an update to the original topic for more help on the project. It doesn’t matter if it’s UX or DOM.

One topic per project, please.

Feel free to respond to users who post to your topic. Bumping your topic is posting for the sole purpose of pushing your topic to the top of the queue.

No. This is very clear is the Code of Conduct and Forum Rules:

  1. Please do not send unsolicited DMs to fellow campers.

Any questions you have about the rules, like this, should be asked publicly. The answers might help others, too.

Follow the Forum Rules and Code of Conduct and you should have no problem. If you do not, moderators will let you know.

Thank you, but what if I am unsure about something in the Code of Conduct or the Forum Rules?
Would it be best to ask for help understanding, if so, should I avoid doing anything that involves the uncertanty until I get a response, or is there a way that you guys would suggest that is something many can default to when unsure?

for this, do you mean, edit the original post, or reply to the original post, or just post the thing, asking for more help?
This is one of the smaller areas (from all the list) is where I am getting confused. I don’t want to post something, asking for more help, and accidentally seem like I am bumping the topic. Knowing me, I will add something, asking for help, move on to something else while I wait for a response, then need more help with something else, really quickly, or really soon.

irreversible moderation actions are rare if you participate in the forum in good faith, most likely a user is asked to avoid a certain behaviour

in this case, add a new message with your updates. All posts in a topic are replies, so you don’t need to worry too much about how to post a new message.

Now, I had gotten into trouble because I was adding “updates” (quotes because in this example it is different than your meaning) about how my project was going, why there wasn’t any recent updates, and that I was struggling to figure out how to do something. All the while, I had no idea that it was bumping the topic to the top of the list.
I am not trying to justify what I did as right, and I do see how it could (and did) do that, even if I didn’t know.

Thank you for the clarification! I will try to avoid the other “updates” I was posting in the topic, about the project unless I get word otherwise that I am able to do those same things. (Though, I HIGHLY doubt that)

I appreciate the help!

when you have a new question, or you have new context for the same question (maybe you tried a completely new thing?), a new post may be fine

just please don’t use the forum as a blog

Ah, okay! Thank you!

(I’m not going to lie here, but I don’t really wanna do certain things where it involves too much social media, and displaying my life out in the world, so when I hear “blog” I think of something like that, even though it may not be that. Though, now I know, and thank you! I will try to avoid doing that!)

I’m assuming that, if I am already adding something, and someone suggests it, I can say some (if not all) of the things I’ve been adding?

For “blog” I mean like a diary in which you say maybe you will do this, maybe you will do that, you did not have time to do that thing yet… which is the type of messages in your other topic that you were asked to not use

So, what I’m understanding is that, even if I am replying to someone, saying something along the lines of “I may add that” or “I don’t know if I will” or “I will add that as soon as I can” (assuming that the last quote thing I said there is similar or a long the lines of “I don’t have time to do that yet”), I can’t say? Or I can, but ONLY when replying to someone? If I can’t I’m assuming that if I were going to reply to someone, it would just be best to say “Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it!”? (I was gonna add something else to that, but I forgot it…)

You created a series of posts that were more about what you were thinking, they were not adding anything about the project

like this one

there is a difference between updating people that gave you feedback with what you did with their feedback, or coming some weeks later to update that you added a new big feature, and this type of blogging style posts that do not belong in a forum like this

Ah, I understand now.

Thank you for helping me out here, I greatly appreciate it!
From now on, if I am unsure about something, I’m assuming I am okay to ask it here, in reply to the topic..?
