I have been using vscode since I started learning coding. I knew about atom code editor but I never used it. Some people said that it’s better than vscode. is it really better than vscode?
I have used Atom, and I also own Sublime Text and now I use exclusively Visual Studio Code even though I am not a Microsoft fan. Keep in mind that Atom is made by GitHub and Microsoft owns GitHub.
I do not think Atom is better than VS code and honestly I do not know exactly why; But what other devs complain about Atom is that once you start working on large projects it start to become slow. Also, I have seen a lot of Senior devs using VS Code.

As Microsoft owns Github I don’t think they are going to give Atom much support. So I would go for Visual Studio Code. Personally, I had to change to Visual Studio Code when I had a problem with an extension and I feel Code is more confortable.

This subject is completely personal and subjective. Similar to @fbclh, I have used several editors – Atom, Sublime, VIM, VSCode, Android Studio, etc. Most of the team where I work uses VS Code, but I have always really liked Atom, and that is what I use most often. Choose whatever you like using the most – there’s no right answer!

Either is fine. So are any number of other text editors and IDEs. You should use whichever one you are able to work the most naturally in.

I totally agree with @johnstonbl01. My husband is the CTO of a company and uses Atom exclusively for this as well as other contract assignments for our company. He also teaches an extension-bootcamp at a local UC where they insist their students install VSCode for the course - so he starts his semesters using VSCode and then within a month or so he always switches back to Atom (as the students by then are comfortable enough to either continue in VSCode or try out Atom).

True, used Sublime, VS Code and Atom, atom is slowest one , Idk why but VS Code beats it at faster speed and more support and extension available to use.

Wow I didn’t realise Atom was so far down on the list! I’ve used Atom the majority of the time and I must admit it does get sluggish the longer you’re on it. (From my experience)

Wow, shocked to see Notepad++ at #3. Got me through college, but I can’t imagine going back after Sublime and now VS Code
