Managing Web and Email Hosting for Clients

Hi all!

I’m in the early days of running a freelance web development business, and am seeking advice on handling web hosting and email hosting setup for clients.

I’ve had a few clients so far, and so far I’m using Hostinger for domain name registration, email hosting, and web hosting. Currently, I have one large hosting plan that I am using to host all my client’s sites. After speaking with some people with experience in the industry, I have been advised that this could pose security issues, as access to my Hostinger account grants access to all services for all of my clients. A security breach could therefore be disastrous.

Therefore, I am seeking advice from web development business/agency owners on a more secure and reliable way to manage these services. Beyond using a different provider for each service, is it advisable to set up hosting accounts for my clients, rather than use a bulk hosting solution associated with one account?

Note: I’m new to the forum, so apologies if this request is too broad - I’m happy to create separate posts in future with higher specificity if this is the case. Otherwise, any guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

What is the content of your clients? Are you hosting some static websites or do your clients use servers, storage and data bases, maybe even with sensitive customer data?

The latter would for sure require action, with separate accounts protected by user roles, defined access and data encryption, also data replication to protect your customers from data loss.

If it’s the former with some static sites that have publicly available information on them, I wouldn’t worry too much.
