I keep getting the “You do not qualify for this job” notification despite slapping down a lot of achievement and quantified metrics. I am wondering about what I am doing wrong.
First note - that’s way too long of a CV. You should have 1 page tops
But for those job postings with long hefty descriptions, I find it challenging to fit everything into 1 page. and example being:
This also includes short job postings where I find that everything I put down is relevant as well and hard to prioritize the removal.
short ones such as
Where I find that all the points would look nice to someone who is applying for the position and would be worth talking to
1 page max unless you are a very experienced senior developer
Would it be bad to combine projects, competitions and work experience together as “experience”
It seems like a strong resume to me, although it’s way too verbose. There’s just too many words and solid blocks of text.
What is the big bold “Help Desk Technician” heading? Your current role or the role you are applying for? It seems unrelated to the rest of the resume.
I would rely more on contacts that you made at your co-op position, and see if they are hiring or if they have any advice about who to ask for a job.
Rely more on your network of contacts, and less on your resume content and design. Co-op managers, competition judges, instructors at school with industry contacts, etc.
The “Help Desk Technician” is the role in which I am applying for.
You do not have a similar previous role and your qualifications are all security and programming related.
Don’t apply for that job, or totally re-write this and only keep experience and knowledge related to being a help desk tech. Most of this is irrelevant to that role.
Above advice as well, rely on your network.
Go on linkedin and search for CIBC jobs for “security”:
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?currentJobId=3967905451
Are you looking for a job after graduation or a summer temporary job?
Keep doing co-ops at CIBC for as many terms as you can, incredibly important experience and will make you qualified to hire.
Some inconsistencies:
Is May - Dec co-op 1 year of experience? Be honest and straightforward.
It says you “led enterprise investigations” as a co-op student? Usually a co-op student would not be leading a team on an invetigation…
If your manager read these things in your resume would they feel comfortable hiring you again or recommending you for another role?
