Too Good of a Coder to Plagiarize but ... Academic Honesty Policy

As God has given me the ability to code, I don’t see any reason for doing plagiarism in future. However, I need to understand something related to the Academic Honesty Policy at freeCodeCamp.

The way I understand it after reading it; a camper deserves to be banned from fCC [and their account plus learning progress deleted] if caught plagiarizing for the first time — irregardless of the severity of the case.

In many universities or tertiary institutions of learning, plagiarism is usually treated as a misconduct and consequences usually include failing the specific unit, probation, suspension, or expulsion * for serious and repeated plagiarism cases.

the punishment for plagiarism is having the Certifications voided, not banning from the platform

see freeCodeCamp's Academic Honesty Policy

In the situations where we discover instances of unambiguous plagiarism, we will replace the camper in question’s certification with a message that “Upon review, this account has been flagged for academic dishonesty.”

It would be a bit overdramatic to ban people. FCC prob doesn’t even have ip ban to ban alt accounts lol.

In that case, this is the message that will attribute or label a learner who just plagiarized precisely and for the first time:

“Upon review, this account has been flagged for academic dishonesty.”

Is there no possibility that the next reaction from fCC admins would be to ban this dedicated learner [and delete their learning progress] while showing them the message I’ve attached as a picture?

I am sorry, what should I do?

what you are quoting is in the settings of the account, that’s the pledge itself.

the curriculum account would be deleted for serious legal reasons, like needing to follow COPPA regulations

Plagiarism on its own has not been a reason so far. Only the certificates are involved in the punishment.

Thank you for editing your post and removing the typing error.

What I meant by the writing syntax is that: Since this is an academic forum, shouldn’t the writing syntax that requires the use of uppercase and lowercase where required apply?

Thank you also for bringing forth the links to the code of conduct and terms of use.

All policies at freeCodeCamp are important for every student to obey to and I agree that failure to that should lead to punishments.

However, I was considering a situation where the admins/moderators here would misuse their powers to extremely punish an offense that could have otherwise been solved through a considerate scale of punishment or by giving a counsel to the offender..

We do not police the use of the English language or other languages in this forum.

is this still related to the academic honesty pledge?

I don’t think it’s that serious. Everyone is very casual here and on their own steady path. Also the “leaders” and mods here are super nice people! Literally the nicest and most patient people who are very understanding. There’s no reddit or discord mod stuff happening here

we have a discord community and the moderation team overlap quite a bit, fyi

and a reddit one

I meant the stereotypical redditor and discord mod unrelated to FCC :wilted_flower:

I understand it was not a critic toward freeCodeCamp, I added that as just a fyi in case you didn’t know and are a discord or reddit user
