We started the forum nearly 12 years ago as a place to ask programming questions and get helpful answers.

Since then, three big things have happened:

  1. LLMs got good at giving quick answers to more immediate programming questions.

  2. Social media went from being a fun place to hang out to mainly being a place for self-promotion.

  3. Many people have now silo’d themselves into group chats on proprietary closed platforms.

So the freeCodeCamp forum is stepping in to provide what’s now missing:

  • Long form discussions on programming and technology
  • Supportive answers to your questions
  • And a sustainable community on the open web

To this end, we’ve created the following discussion categories:

  1. General - If you’re not sure where to post, no worries. Post here and we’ll tag your post for you.

  2. Programming – Ask your programming questions here and share spicy programming takes. All languages welcome.

  3. Hardware + Systems – Building a PC? Building a pet robot? Building your own cloud? This is the place to discuss tech DIY, self-hosting, Linux, and more.

  4. Security – The world is held together by duct tape. Help others not get pwned, and learn to be more secure yourself. You can also share privacy tips here.

  5. Getting Things Done with AI – This is a hype-free, existential crisis-free place to discuss AI tools and show how you’re using them.

  6. Tech News Talk – Share tech news you find interesting and discuss it with the fCC community.

  7. Hobbies – Talk about music, language learning, video games, crochet – whatever you enjoy doing in your downtime.

  8. freeCodeCamp Community – Learn how you can contribute to open source and in share your wisdom with the freeCodeCamp community. We also announce new initaitives here.

  9. Career (You Can Do This!) – Nobody knows what’s going to happen with technology. The best strategy is to keep adapting. Share your tactics and your wins. Get help and motivation from the community.

  10. I Built This – Showcase projects you’re building. Give constructive feedback on other people’s projects.

  11. freeCodeCamp Support – Get help with the freeCodeCamp learning platform.

The freeCodeCamp community will be hanging out here sharing insights, and I hope you’ll choose to hang out here as well.
