What can a 13 year old with good knowledge with frontend web developent do?

When I was around 8 I learnt python using a raspberry pi, and when I was 11-12 I got into front end web development. I have now made a student news website with my friend for my school, and i’m wondering how I could somehow start to make money by developing such webpages. What are the legal laws with this in the UK and what am I allowed to do?

Listen. You’re more advanced than some people. But trust me, you’re better off just being a kid for a while longer. You’re allowed to hobby and mess around, but really don’t try juggling too much. School is going to get tougher and believe me, balancing a lot of things at once is not a good idea.

wow, you’re well ahead of the curve.

I suggest below

  1. Join a startup, checkout Y Combinator YT Channel and their jobs page

  2. Once you get enough experience of say 3 - 5 years, then have your own startup and raise funding to give employment to others.

UK has got loads of cool startups, am sure you will get job into one of these. Also I hope all your work is in GitHub to showcase to the potential employers.

In IT age doesn’t matter but the knowledge does, so it doesn’t matter if you’re 10+ or 40+, if you can build projects then you will get your dream job

Keep aiming for big goals.

I would definitely recommend to read books or watch documentaries about Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and other founders who have left school to start something cool on their own.

Being an Indian, I can definitely say I’ve wasted minimum 5+ years in school, college etc. Things I learnt; were never used on job or real life.

IMHO schools should teach life skills and things which are needed for particular job.

I would be careful about this point here though.

There is a huge difference between dropping out of college at 18 or 19 years old to start your own company and being 13 years and pursuing professional opportunities.

Again, the OP is 13 though.
There are labor laws concerning children.
So working in a startup environment will not be that simple.

HI @blockitjames !

I agree with @a2937 that you are advanced for your age and quite impressive.

My advice would be for you and your parents to consult legal advice on working for minors from a accredited legal service.
You want to make sure you are getting the most accurate advice.

In the mean time, I would suggest continuing to learn and grow your skills which will put you in a great position when you are 18 to have incredible professional opportunities available to you because of your skill.

Hope that helps

Ok cool.

Probably not, your right, but at the moment I have way to many hours of free time that I either spend playing video games, going outside, or working on random projects.

School is going to get tougher

GCSE’s are coming around next year, and I will probably have alot less free time because most of it will be taken away by revision. So you are totally right on this part.
Thanks for your feedback. I think I am just gonna make a few random projects and put them on github for now.

Yes, probably sensible.

I thought if somebody can work on his / her own, it won’t or shouldn’t be illegal

fyi… Interview: Teenager Sells His Mobile Startup To Yahoo! For $30 Million

Hmm, I think if I sold for example software on the microsoft store or something that would be fine

or make a web app with a pro subscription service
surely that would be legal

you can check SaaS indie developers’ community on Twitter, who build in public and share all the details, pretty amazing

There are lots of ways to run into laws. Don’t trust someone online saying ‘surely’ it’s legal. We aren’t lawyers. Check your local laws and if it doubt, be careful.

fair, I’ve been looking inside the ms stores terms of service and nothing seems dodgy so far. However, I still need to look at UK laws ig.
