You can’t go wrong with a bit of john ducket. He has two books that I’ve read. HTML & CSS, and JavaScript and jQuery. Both aimed at beginners new to code.
For afters I can recommend Ben frains responsive web development with HTML5 and CSS3.
If your after free books, have a look in one of p1xts tracks, although I highly doubt you’ve missed those posts!
