Was it a fascinating project, a inspiring mentor, or a problem you desperately wanted to solve? Maybe you stumbled into coding by accident and got hooked, share your story of how you got interested in programming
Hello!
Why don’t you start by sharing your story?
It was Hollywood for me.
‘Hackers’ and ‘The Matrix’ triggered my early interest in computers.
Simply the feeling of something I coded actually doing something on the screen!
i love the idea of a language actually Doing real things, it’s like magic spells! i was in the age group where we just started getting computers in schools - like one per school - so i was exposed to DOS games at a young age and always loved computers since then.
when i was in my early 20s i started teaching myself to code apps and made a basic frames app, that would add different frames and basic filters over photos and included a bright white light on the user facing camera for night selfies. sadly i didn’t know business very well so i couldn’t market it and missed the boat, then like 5 years later the social media apps came out with the same thing for free. i am always a bit proud of myself for creating it but i didn’t build any more apps after that, although i did spend much of my career in digital services like advertising, webmaster and content marketing.
now i do have a problem i am desperate to solve! at the moment i am helping to work on my family farm and have seen a huge need for an app to help manage farm tasks and share knowledge and updates between the workers. so i’m back at it to learn app development in 2024 and hopefully build a solution that can help farmers all over the world
My father was a teacher and borrowed a computer the summer I was seven. Like a previous comment said: it was like magic. Also, as another commenter mentioned, when I wrote something, the computer carried out the instructions.
That’s pretty powerful, isn’t it? At seven years old, being able to give instructions and have them carried out?
