Wombats  This whole time I thought we were beavers

Giraffe here!
I looked into the possible projects and noticed that I donā€™t really understand what that momentum dash thingie actually does. When I visit the site, there is nothing I can do really nor is there any information on what the basic functionality is. All I could find was a link showing me the benefits of Momentum Pro - which doesnā€™t help if I donā€™t even know what the basic version does. So I KINDA get a hint of what to expect, but nothing definitive.

I know I COULD click on ā€œAdd Momentum to Chromeā€ but maybe itā€™s just me, but I donā€™t really want to install things just to see what they actually do. Itā€™s likely that Iā€™m too paranoid here, but having to install something blindly just feels wrong UX wise.

the chrome web store link has a bit more info:

Replace new tab page with a personal dashboard featuring todo, weather, and inspiration.
New Tab page gives you a moment of calm and inspires you to be more productive. Set a daily focus, track your to dos, and get inspired with a daily photo and quote. Eliminate distractions and beat procrastination with a reminder of your focus for the day on every new tab load. Join over 1 million users and get inspired to create the life you want to live.

i guess to really re-engineer an app you have to install and use itā€¦

Koala cohort here.

Looking forward to March 17!

Yeah, the web store linkā€¦ Stupid me ;3 Thanks a lot for clarifying on the functionality of the app, @chemok78 And youā€™re absolutely right that in order to reverse engineer it, Iā€™d have to install it.;D It was just that Iā€™d wanted to know if the app was something Iā€™d like to work on before signing up to the project.

So yeah thanks again - Iā€™m really excited to see you all very soon =)

Iā€™m in giraffes too.

A few questions:
In the sign up sheets, do I put the username I use in here or the one in slack?
and
Why the projects banner has a huge red pink ā€˜Xā€™ over it? Are they full?

@kimkwanka Yeah, I was looking at the projects too and had no idea what the plugin did. I donā€™t like installing things in my browser, specially chrome that for some reason crashes or runs very slow when it has plugins installed. I would like to sign up for both but I have no clue how big and difficult those projects are.

Hi, WOMBAT here, i was trying to sign up on slack like a crazy ā€¦ ok.i will wait for the invite

not 100% sure, but I think Chance emailed earlier that we will receive march 17!

I chose the ā€˜Create New Teamā€™ option. It then lets you create an account and then add the new team info.

Whatā€™s up!!! Wambat here. Looking forward to signing up for stuff. I hope Iā€™m not useless with my lack of mad skillzšŸ˜œ Iā€™m already on slack for another group so I have a username. It has an option to add more teams.

Iā€™ve seen yesterday that i ve been accepted to Coala kohort  Good luck folks and have fun.

@kimkwanka and others asking about the Momentum Dash project ā€¦

Iā€™m currently in my 2nd round of the cohorts; did the Momentum project as a ā€˜Meerkatā€™ - my previous cohort.

You definitely do not need to install the Chrome extension for the project. There are (or were - I suppose it could have changed) two stated objectives: 1) clone the basic functionality of Momentum Dash, and 2) build from that, creating something new based on what youā€™ve learned.

You can 100% figure out Momentum Dash just by looking at screenshots in Google images. And if youā€™ve completed the FCC intermediate front-end projects, youā€™ve totally got this.

Thereā€™s no formal showcase or evaluation of the projects. So ā€¦ I donā€™t think thereā€™s really any pressure to complete or consequence if you donā€™t. Still, what you get out of the experience is directly proportional to what you put in.

The biggest take-aways for me were the derivative benefits of working with a team with a deadline. I went in worrying about my coding ability. But the soft skills stuff turned out to be the real challenge: team dynamics (politics), scheduling, keeping everyone motivated, dealing with unexpected real-life stuff, etc.

Giraffes represent!

Iā€™ve creeped around on a few peopleā€™s portfolios, and Iā€™ve noticed that some of you guys are a bit farther ahead than I am, which Iā€™m super excited about, and I look forward to this opportunity to learn from my peers.

Iā€™m also super excited about the projects, I think itā€™ll be a great way to get experience working in a team with people.
