Leveraging University Affiliation

I’m a graduate student who’s currently a little disillusioned with my research and the direction of the American academy. Do you think that I could use my university affiliation to land an internship despite not being an undergraduate or a CS major? My current plan is to beef up my skills and portfolio this summer and attend all of the campus career events this fall to land an internship next summer.

I have an M.S. in sociology from completing a quantitatively oriented project using Stata, and have done two rounds of doctoral statistics courses, so I don’t feel like a total outsider. Still, just looking for a reality check and other ideas. Thanks for this great resource for us career-changers out here!
