Got my FIRST DEV JOB! šŸš€

@sitek94 Congrats! I’ve always looked up your projects as a ā€˜high bar’ to achieve on FCC. You obviously really love to code.

I’m actually an architect by training, before I got into FCC. Do you think your architecture experience helped you with coding, or just with the design, or not at all?

Was that directed at me? I have written a few FCC posts with updates on starting the job. I was thinking about updating my ā€œgetting a jobā€ article to talk about what it was like to switch jobs after a few years. I suppose ā€œthings I learned on the first jobā€ could be a good addition too.

@kevinSmith Yes directed at yourself sir. Getting through the probation period on the first job would be an interesting topic.

Thank you @kevinSmith , your advices are very helpful, I really appreciate it! And I’ll make sure to update the post with a timeline and additional information as you suggested.

As @miketandy already said - that would be really interesting and valuable to hear about your first months in new job. Getting a job is amazing so ā€œAfter getting a jobā€ would be a perfect sequel

Thank you @egglearn! Here are some of the resources that I used:

Maybe not directly with the coding but definitely with the designs, sketching some layouts and general feeling if something looks nice. It’s also really helpful knowing how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. Generally I think that the time I spent studying architecture was well worth it and I don’t regret it

Thank you so much!!!

A million congrats on your first dev job, Maciek! I can tell you that you’ve spend an unbelievable amount of time and effort after checking out your projects. Like man, they’re all beautiful, sleek, and mobile responsive - I could probably spend all day exploring and still be amazed by it!

Here’s sincere wishing on all the best of your journey! Enjoy!

Congratulations!!
May I ask you a question?
I saw that you put your portfolio on GitHub pages, and provided the source code in the repositories.
How were you able to create different repositories for each item (like the tribute, form etc.) and show them ?
I have a GitHup pages site, but I can’t show on it projects that are in different repositories…
Thanks and good luck for your job!!

Thank you @northernsoul

Wow, thanks @Masker! I’m really happy that you liked the projects

Thanks @ro.saimon !

Generally inside content/projects there are static files with basic information about my projects - these are not the original repositories

I built a small tool that generates these static files from my github, you can check it out here: macieksitkowski.com/tree/master/generate

Thank you for sharing this!
I’ve been learning Front End since May 2020, and balancing work/study/family has been difficult! I only wish my GitHub was as green as yours!
Congratulations on landing your job!

this is inspiring especially now with the pandemic… it is difficult to get a job…

Hi @queiroz.filipe94 and thanks  As for GitHub - even one commit a day can make a difference and show that you’re consistent

I’m glad you’ve found this inspiring, @lace  good luck!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your invaluable lessons.

During your learning phase do you had learning partner/s , team etc or you were on you own ?

I sometimes feel it’s good to have learning team member/s to keep ourself on path.

Best,
Vikram

Hi sitek94,
Thanks for sharing your story and so many useful resources. I’m at the start of my coding journey (no technical background) and it’s great to read so many pointers.
Congrats & good luck!
